Inspired by Music

It is time for a new challenge at Aurora Wings, and our theme is "Inspired by Music". Your creation can have lyrics or not, and your music can be from anywhere: TV show, movie, classical, rock, you name it. As long as we can see the song's inspiration in your piece, it's good! The sentiment is not a lyric from my song, but I think it is in the spirit of the song. Can you guess what my inspirational song is?
FLYING KITTEN
My song inspiration was "Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller Band. Maybe it's my odd sense of humour, but I thought this was funny. A kitten that would want to fly like an eagle, and he looks like he's enjoying himself while he's at it. It still makes me laugh. I was going through my AW images that I already had printed out ready to colour, and when I saw it the lyrics popped right into my head. So I just ran with it. You can find the image at the Aurora Wings store HERE.

I loaded up my Animals Colouring Class from Kit and Clowder for this because I really don't colour too many animals, and when I do, I don't do the detail fur and flicking I've done here. I pulled up the cat class and gave it a whirl, and I think it came out pretty good. I'll give myself a pat on the back for my first try. 😉 I used paper and sparklies from Kaisercraft, and a mix of jute ribbon, cheesecloth, and lace to layer under my image. The small cloud stitch die is from Rubbernecker Stamps. The tag is punch out from Stampin' Up. I inked up the edge of my tag and the image with some Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in Tea Dye. The sentiment stamp is from Finnabair's "Don't Forget to Fly" stamp collection.

Make sure you check out my team mates other inspirational pieces for this challenge on the  CHALLENGE BLOG. They are really amazing, and if a flying kitten doesn't inspire you maybe something else will. 😉 Scroll down and you can listen to my song and chill and imagine a cat trying to fly...

A Sketch Challenge

Hey everyone! It is time for a new challenge, and the teams are going to switch things around so Stella Team will be bringing you inspiration for the first half of the challenges for the rest of the year. This challenge is a Sketch challenge. See below:
For my DT inspiration, I used the new image "Icicles and Crystals" for my card:
I used Copics to colour the image (BV08-BV000 & B05-B0000), along with some glitter gel pens and Stickles in Gunsmoke and Frosted Lace. My chipboard "believe" is from Make It Crafty, as are the little stars. I inked them up with my Copics then used Versamark ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder to make them shine. My flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts.
A close up of the chip board and some of the Stickles
Check out the challenge blog to see the team's other inspiration, and again in two weeks, when the midway post goes up with even more inspiration from our fabulous designers.

Our prizes this challenge will include:

Once Upon a Time Challenge at Aurora Wings

It is the midway point of our Once Upon a Time challenge at Aurora Wings. It is time for the Stella Team to bring you some inspiration for the second half of the challenge. Your creation should be inspired by a fairy tale, and mine is inspired by Snow White and the evil queen who doesn't want to give up her title of being the fairest in the land. I used the image "Dark Princess" for my project.

Dark Princess
I coloured the image with Copics. For her headpiece, I used gunmetal and frost colored Stickles. It is actually very sparkly in person, but I had a hard time catching it with a camera. The angled picture below, hopefully, gives you a better idea of what I did. For the rest of my card I wanted to keep the dark feeling, so I used the Distress Mini Square Background stamp from Rubbernecker Stamps on a red mat, then darkened up the edges of that with some black distress ink. I added a few black pearls at the bottom right corner, and glued on some red and black flowers.

Below are the direct links to the stamp I used at the Etsy store and the Aurora Wings digi shop:

Joyous Occasion

We are at the halfway point of our Joyous Occasion challenge on the Aurora Wings Challenge blog. It is time for the Stella Team to bring you our inspiration pieces for the next half of the challenge, and I made a birthday card for my niece using "Marie Antoinette". I cropped the image and printed it out at about 4" square. I really wanted to get into the fine details of this image which is why I cropped it and printed it off bigger than usual (my norm is 3.5"). My completed card is 5x5 inches.

I coloured the image with Copics. I used white vellum for the back mat, then layered cheesecloth and lace on top of that. I matted my image on black so it would really pop, and I love the contrast you get layering on black. My flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts.

Now pop on over to the challenge blog, if you haven't been there already, check out the other inspiration pieces and show us what you got! This challenge runs through  June 16.

Our prizes this challenge will include:

1(one) Artist's Choice Winner to be chosen by Mitzi from all entries using an Aurora Wings image (Custom badge+3 single digital images)

1(one) Random Winner (3 single digital images)

Top 3 To be selected by the Design Teams from all entries (Custom badge+1 single digital image each)

Sprite Delight Challenge at Aurora Wings

It is the midway point of one of the most popular challenge themes at Aurora Wings: Sprite Delight. This is the fifth Sprite Delight challenge we've had on the blog, and it is also the fourth anniversary of the challenge blog! There is also a special gift for you at the challenge blog, so make sure you visit if you weren't already there. Today I used Wine Sprite for my card:

I did a pretty awesome job of repurposing papers and embellies for this card. The scalloped edge floral paper and the butterflies were both part of a thank you note from a craft company that I received quite some time ago. I had been holding on to it and the colours on the paper went perfectly with my colour scheme for this card. I added a bit of lace and some pearls and "Voila!

Please check out the other wonderful creations by my fellow DT ladies at the challenge blog. Theyare, as usual, simply amazing. Then, after you've been inspired, create something of your own and add it to the challenge! Our prizes this challenge are DOUBLED in celebration of the blog's 4 year anniversary and include:

2 (TWO!) Artist's Choice Winners to be chosen by Mitzi from all entries using an                 Aurora Wings image (Custom badge+3 single digital images)

2 (TWO!) Random Winners (3 single digital images)

Top 6 (SIX!) To be selected by the Design Teams from all entries (Custom badge+1 single digital image each)

Bingo Challenge at Aurora Wings

We are halfway through our Bingo challenge at the Aurora Wings challenge blog, and it is Team Stella's turn to bring you some inspiration. First, here is the Bingo challenge board:

I went diagonally down from Sentiment to Ribbons or Bow. I used Shamrock Sprite for my card. Since we are closing in on St. Patrick's Day and I'm part Irish, what better image to use!

I coloured the image with Copics, using YG's and Y's. The die cuts are from Rubbernecker Stamps. You can find them HERE. It is a nested die set and there are eight die cuts in the set. The ribbon I bought at Michaels. It was a real trial in patience, folding it like that over and over again, and gluing each fold down. The sentiment is from Verve Stamps.

Anything But A Card Challenge

A new challenge is up on the Aurora Wings Challenge blog and the theme is "Anything But A Card". I made gift tags and ornaments, using mostly Holiday sprites in addition to the Kitten in a Stocking and the Christmas Puppy stamps. I will add links for each image at the end of my post so you can easily find them. :-)

I coloured the images with Copics and some Clear Star Gelly Roll pen. I only printed them out at 2" tall because that is how big the tag punch and ornament dies are. I didn't have a lot of space to colour with the images being so small, so I stayed away from images that were too detailed. My kids actually want to colour their own ornaments now, so that is going to be a fun little activity for us in the near future. In the picture below you can see how I decorated the other side with some of the other dies from the framelits set I used. It is from Stampin' Up and it's called "Merry Tags".

Pop on over to the challenge blog to enter your creation(s). You can enter up to THREE times if you use an AW image on each entry! The prizes for this challenge are: 1 (one) Artist's Choice Award Winner to be selected from entries using Aurora Wings digis ($20 GC and Badge); 1 (one)  Random Winner ($20 GC); and a TOP 3 Winners to be chosen by the DT ($10 GC and Badge). This challenge runs until January 13. You have extra time with this one because of the holidays so if you have some free time show us what you can come up with!

Aurora Wings Showcase

There are three Holiday sprites coming out today at Aurora Wings that were previously only available in the Sprites colouring book. But now you can purchase the individual images in the AW stores, and they are all featured in a special showcase HERE at the Aurora Wings Showcase blog. I made a tag with the Sugar Plum Sprite.

I coloured the image with Copics using R80's for the pink. The tag cutout I did on my Cameo. I added some thin ribbons on the present cutouts, and bordered it with string pearls. I used Shabby Pink Frantage on the back layer beneath the image. Below is a close up angled shot of the finished image. Hopefully you can see the Frosted Lace Stickles I used on the parts I thought were meant to be sparkly. I also used a Molotow paint pen for highlights before I applied the Stickles. I used a clear glitter gel pen on her crown.

Make sure you check out all of the amazing other creations that the DT put together for you as inspiration. These are just in time for some last minute cards or tag ideas for Christmas. There are coupon codes for this weekend as well:

Clean and Simple Challenge

CAS Challenge
Time for a new challenge at Aurora Wings and the theme is Clean and Simple. This is one of my favorite challenge themes because sometimes I hate to take away from Mitzi's images with a bunch of embellishments. Her images can be so detailed that adding any more detail feels like a disservice to her art.

Poppy Sprite
I chose Poppy Sprite for this card. I definitely spent more time colouring the image than I did designing the card. The colouring took me a few hours, the card took about 20 minutes. I matted the image on black and green and affixed it to a white card base that I embossed with a Cuttlebug damask embossing folder. The image really shines on such a simple layout. I debated adding a sentiment but decided against it in the end. I love how the red pops out on that white base. I'm really happy with how this turned out.

This challenge runs until October 14.

Anything Goes at Aurora Wings

It's time for a new challenge at Aurora Wings and the Stella DT is here with some inspiration for you. This challenge is one of my favorites: Anything Goes!

I have used Columbine Sprite for my card. I love Columbines; they remind me of Colorado, where I grew up. I can't seem to get them to grow here in Alberta, though. Oh, well... I'll just have to live with the sprites then. 😉

I coloured the image with Copics, using the B60s for the blue-purple color I wanted to achieve. I decided to use a DP with no purple or blue in it so the sprite would really pop on the card. I added a few flowers to finish it off.

This challenge runs until July 17.

Celebration Showcase at Aurora Wings

We've reached 3,000 members at the Aurora Wings Facebook group, and to celebrate we're having a party!!! Mitzi has drawn up some beautiful images for a special showcase and I am sharing my creation with the new image "Lady Of The Sea", which is only available in the Aurora Wings digi shop.

I coloured the image with Copics and kept the design simple to really showcase the image. And it took a lot of time to colour this whole thing! I printed it out at 5x7" because of all the detail and I wanted to do it justice.

There is a huge celebration going on in the Facebook group. Make sure you head over there because there will be a free image for participants. The freebie digi for this event will become available at 6 pm EDT on Saturday, June 10th. Here's a little sneak peek:

It's a Celebration!

It's a "Celebration" challenge at Aurora Wings with some awesome inspiration brought to you by the Stella DT. I have used "Marie Antoinette" for my birthday card. I went with a lot of pink for this card and made it very girly.

I coloured the image with Copics, using the R80's to do her dress. My flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts, the lace is from Live & Love Crafts. My DP is from Maja and is from the "Coffee in the Arbour" collection. The pearl string is from Kaisercraft.

'Frame It!' Challenge at Aurora Wings

It is time for a new challenge at Aurora Wings brought to you by the Stella Team. This challenge theme is "Frame It!".

I chose the image "Weeping Rose" for my card, and used a chipboard frame from Make It Crafty, which I covered in Shabby Pink Fran-tage.

I coloured the image with Copics and Prismacolor Pencils. I did her skin with Copics, and went back over the shading with pencils. The flowers are almost entirely pencil. I laid down a very light base colour on the flowers with Copics, then built up the colour from there with pencils. The die cut is from Spellbinders. The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts; the ribbon and lace are from Live & Love Crafts. The paper is from Maja Design (Coffee in the Arbour collection).

I hope I have inspired you to create something for this challenge. Pop on over to the challenge blog to enter your creation(s). You can enter up to THREE times if you use an AW image on each entry! I used Butterfly Sprite Fancy Wings for my card and I went a little shabby chic with the design. For this challenge you have to use an Aurora Wing sprite, but not the sprites with the "big eyes".

Mardi Gras Colour Challenge

It is time for the first challenge of 2017 at Aurora Wings. Our challenge theme is a colour challenge in honor of Mardi Gras, so we want to see you use green, gold, and purple in your project.

Snapdragon Sprite
I have used Snapdragon Sprite for my card. I coloured the image with Copics, and used a variety of paper scraps from my stash. I also used two different gold ribbons, some paper flowers, a heart that I crocheted myself, and some filigree corners that I painted with Pebéo gold paint.

Please stop by the Aurora Wings Challenge blog and enter your own creation for this challenge. While you are there, check out my fellow DT sisters' amazing projects and leave some love for them. ❤ xx
