Movie Inspiration

Over at Open-Minded Crafting Fun Challenges our current theme is Movie Inspiration. We have some wonderful sponsors providing us some wonderful images to work with too: Ike's Art, Sami Stamps, and Sassy Studio. I chose an image from Sami Stamps called "With You". At first, my inspiration was supposed to be The Notebook. I haven't met a woman yet who doesn't love The Notebook. The image I was working with wasn't exactly like the scene in The Notebook, but it was close enough. THEN I saw Little Women the other day. The one with Winona Ryder as Jo, and I forgot how much I loved that movie. At the end, Friedrich comes while Jo is gone and drops off her book that he's arranged to have published. She comes home, realizes he's been there, and runs after him. She brings him his umbrella that he's left behind, and it starts to rain; he opens his umbrella, asks her to marry him and there they are, under the umbrella, living happily ever after. So romantic! It doesn't hurt that I've always had a thing for Gabriel Byrne. So, in the end, that was my inspiration for this.

I used Copics to color the image. The background is watercolor. I used an Art Impressions cloud stamp at the top with water-based ink and dragged the ink out with a wet brush, the rest of it I did freehand.

Their feet are flat against the paper, but I used 3D foam circles under the umbrella, and I curved the umbrella so that it pops out from the paper. There's quite an exaggeration at the top where the umbrella pops out and curves over.

I used a watermark pen to go over the umbrella and then I embossed it with clear embossing powder. I wanted it to have that shiny vinyl finish some umbrellas have.

Make sure you check out Open-Minded Crafting Fun Challenges! We love to see a variety of projects, not just cards!

Well, that was my movie inspiration! Now I want to watch Little Women again. And The Notebook. :-)
I hope you liked it. Please feel free to leave a comment below; I love to hear what you have to say!

Queen of Hearts

First let me start off by saying that we are celebrating having over 500 members in The East Wind Facebook group! We are having a colouring contest, and some games will be played as well. Unky has offered up some of her art prints as a prize for commenting on THIS POST and inviting a friend to join The East Wind. Make sure you check it out!! And if you're not a member of the FB group, JOIN! We would love to have you!

Here we go! The 21st of every month is the start of a new challenge on The East Wind's Facebook page. This month, our theme is "Alice in Wonderland" and the image I'm using for my DT project is Lucy Loo 'Queen of Hearts'.

I decided to use actual playing cards as the background for my card because she is, after all, the Queen of Hearts. I staggered and layered them, using 3D foam dots. On the last two layers of cards, I doubled up the foam so they sat higher.

I coloured most of her with Copics, but I used Gelly Roll Metallic pens for her crown, scepter, and the jewels on her scepter; I used a Gelly Roll silver glitter pen to highlight her gown so it looked like silver thread in areas.

I put the Queen on with even more foam dots so she sat higher than everything else.
"Off With Her Head!"
I also used Spellbinders dies, my Cameo to cut out the baroque heart, and flowers from I Am Roses.
I had a lot of fun making this. I know someone who loves Alice in Wonderland, so I may put this in a shadow box and make a gift of it. I hope you liked it!

Thanks for visiting!! And make sure you check out The East Wind. Besides the Facebook group, there is the blog, with TWO challenges every month. All three challenges between the FB group and the blog have different themes, so there's sure to be something that will interest you and inspire you to craft.

I'm entering this into the challenges at:

New Release Monday at The East Wind

Happy Monday!! We start and end the weekend here at The East Wind with new releases. How awesome is that?! Today we have Lucy Loo "Song for Tears". Lucy Loo is a bad ass chick. As soon as I saw this I knew I had to colour her. My oldest daughter is a bad ass herself, and she was the first person I thought of when I saw this. Not the crying part, but the rebel. She is a rebel from head to toe, and always has been, but in a good "be myself and who cares what people say" way, not a "get in trouble and end up in jail" way. So I see her when I look at Lucy Loo sometimes. And since she is about 2600 km away from me, THAT set the theme of my project.

I coloured her with Copics and Prismacolor pencils.
Skin: E0000, E000, E00, E11, E13, R20
Hair: R57, R37, R35, R32; Prisma Pencils: Crimson Lake, Cool Grey 90%
Clothes: BV20's

I cut the cherry blossom tree with my Cameo; the filigree corner dies are from La-La Land Crafts. I used a Spellbinders die for the sentiment, and my flowers are from I Am Roses. I used an embossing folder from Cuttlebug, and then dabbed over the raised part with silver pigment ink.

We have a new Facebook challenge starting on Wednesday, so come check that out. Plus, The East Wind's Facebook page has reached 500 members, so as a celebration of that Unky has a big giveaway going on. Join the group so you can have a chance of winning some of her original art!
There are also two challenges a month on the blog. Come join us for some fun!

Thanks for stopping by!

New Release Friday at The East Wind

Hello and Happy Friday!! I am having such a blast at The East Wind! What a great group of ladies! Lucky for all of us, Fridays AND Mondays are new release days at The East Wind. Today's new release is Aurora 'Explore'. I coloured her up with Copics and Prismacolor Pencils. The paper is from Michele R Designs.

I was really inspired by the idea of travel when I got this image. I imagine she's exploring the world, and discovering new things on her journeys. She can't wait to see what kind of things she will find in the places she visits.

This picture shows an angle view so you can see the dimension of the layout.
We're running challenges on Facebook and TEW blog. You have just a little bit of time left to enter the current Facebook challenge, the theme of which is Very Merry "Quirkmas". The deadline is January 17, so HURRY!! January 21 is the beginning of a new challenge on The East Wind Facebook page, so come check it out. It's going to be a lot of fun, because all of Unky's art that goes with the challenge theme is fantastic! There are also TWO challenges every month on The East Wind blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed it and are inspired to do some exploring of your own!

Tiddly Inks DT Call

Tiddly Inks is having a DT call and I debated whether I should apply or not. I wasn't sure if I was good enough, but then I decided that if I don't try, I'll never know. So here we are, and today I am sharing the card I made especially for the occasion. I used "Fairy Sunny Day". She is available in a digi format or in rubber HERE. Tiddly Inks are some of the very first digis I bought when I started on my colouring journey a couple of years ago. I love their happy attitudes, and they're just SO cute!

New Year New Brand

As you might have heard, The Stamping Chef closed their doors and the new Slinky Tart is live for business! If you're looking for sexy pin up type images for projects then THIS is the place to be! There is also a new Facebook page for those of you that haven't migrated over from The Stamping Chef yet. And why is that? Get over there!

We are doing things a little differently now. Five Design Team members all coloured up the featured image of the week: VALENTINA. She's just in time for Valentines Day, which is just a little over a month away.

I used my Cameo to cut out a confetti heart background on black paper and laid it over red glitter cardstock. I cut the same background out on white, and used the white heart "scraps" to decorate the front of the card. I tied it with a sheer red ribbon, and Voila!
I coloured her with Copics, and added a little extra "shine" to her eyes with a white Molotow paint pen.

Now go check out the new Slinky Tart website and visit us on Facebook!
Thanks for visiting!!

New Years Resolutions with Open-Minded Crafting Fun

New Years Resolutions. Does anyone stick to them? I gave up a long time ago and resolved to make no more resolutions. So far, I'm doing great!

I was so honored to be asked to join the design team over at Open-Minded Crafting Fun, and today I have my very first project for them. First, let me start off by saying that we have so many AWESOME sponsors lined up for this year, and you should really stop by and check them out. 2015 is going to be absolutely FABULOUS!!! And we can't wait to see what you all come up with for our challenges! So right after you read this, SHARE it with your crafty friends on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest, whatever! And then GET TO CRAFTING!!

The sponsors for our "New Years Resolutions" Challenge are LiaStampz, Meljen's Designs, The Stamping Boutique, and Zuri Artsy Craftsy Digital Stamps. The stamp that I have used is by The Stamping Boutique, and it is called Pocket Patootie Sunshine. I think you have to live every day to it's fullest because you don't know what tomorrow will bring. Our parents are aging, our kids are sent off to school and out of our control and care almost every day, our loved ones are on the road, in the air, so many things can happen that can change our lives forever. You really have to "Live in the Moment". Be conscious of what you have right now and appreciate it.

I coloured this with Copics. I used BG10-18 for the pocket and did some hand stitching along the edges.
I got out my Cuttlebug and use my La-La Land Crafts dies for the butterfly and filigree corners.
I used By DIEzyne Stitched Brackets dies, and my Silhouette Cameo for the background.
I get my flowers from I Am Roses.

Thanks so much for visiting! Take time to check out the challenge this week at Open-Minded Crafting Fun and show us what your New Years Resolution is! The deadline for this challenge will be midnight on Friday, January 16th, 2015.

And... Make sure you come back in a couple of weeks for our next challenge, which is Movie Inspiration!! I already have my movie picked out! It's "The Notebook". One of my faves! You'll have to come back here to see what I colour up!

Big Announcement and New DT Make!

What a crazy couple of weeks it's been! I'm glad the holidays are over and things can get back to normal. I think 2015 is going to be a fabulous year, but I have to say 2014 was pretty awesome too, because...

Right before Christmas, I found out I was chosen to be a new Design Team member at The East Wind!! I was and AM so excited about this! TEW is one of my absolute favourites, and to have been chosen is a real honor for me. And that brings me to today's post!

I'm sharing my very first DT make for The East Wind! It's a brand new image called "Twistedvenus - Princess of Forest".

I coloured her with Copics. I used the YR20's, BG90's, and E44, E47, E49. I also used Distress Ink in Frayed Burlap to fill in a bit of colour at the roots of her "chair". The flowers are from I Am Roses. I have SO much paper in my closet, that I couldn't even begin to tell you what paper this is. I used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss the leaves. I couldn't find the name of it on the internet, so it will have to remain a mystery. lol!

Make sure you check out TEW's Facebook page, her Etsy shop, and join in the challenges on the website and on Facebook! There's lots of fun to be had!!

Thanks for visiting!
