Kitty Trand

It's time for a new release from The East Wind!! This one is a real cutie, and I coloured it up in record time so I could get it done before we headed out on a road trip! And I should be packing right now actually, so this post is going to be short and sweet! Here is "Kitty Trand" for your crafting pleasure.

Kitty Trand
I went with a dark shabby chic theme (if there is such a thing) with this card. I think my daughter will really like it as a fun "just because" card. I'll run down the recipe real fast and get back to my packing before my husband comes home and gets mad because I'm not ready to hit the road. lol!!!

Filigree corners - LaLa Land Drafts die
Flowers - Wild Orchid Crafts
Heart frame chipboard - Make It Crafty
DP - DCWV
Coloured with Copics:
Hair - R59, R56, RV34, RV32
Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E04
C and W's for the greys, plus some glitter gel pen for her shirt sleeves which actually look like they have sequins on them if you see them in person. The effect actually came out really well!

Make sure you head over to The East Wind's Facebook group and join in on our current dark themed challenge. There are also twice monthly challenges on the blog and the freebie is about to go out on the first, so make sure you are signed up for the newsletter!! Look for the bright pink box on the homepage.

New Release from The East Wind

Hello Crafters!! It's Tuesday and it's new release day at The East Wind! Today's new image is Lucy Loo 'Torn Dress' and she's got some attitude. I picked one of my favourite memes circulating the interwebs (you know the one with Scarlett O'Hara aka Vivien Leigh) and incorporated it onto my card. I'm sure I know some ladies with sass that I can send it to. ;-)

Make sure you drop by The East Wind's Facebook group for our current challenge, and check out the BLOG for twice monthly challenges!

New Release at The East Wind

It's Friday, and that means a new release over at The East Wind!! Today's new image is Aurora "Siesta III".

I coloured this with Copics and Prismacolor pencils (just on her hair). I did the background using one of the techniques in the Background Workshop that came with the Create & Learn class for November over at Kit and Clowder, changing the colours to suit my project's colour pallette. The sentiment is a stamp from Unity Stamps. I used a white Molotow marker to make the stars. The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts.

We are getting ready to have a 1,000 Members Celebration over at our TEW group on Facebook. Unky has so many awesome sponsors lined up and some really fantastic prizes that are going to be given away to random winners. There are going to be a lot of contests to take part in, so make sure you are a member of the group and check in on December 11! It runs the entire weekend, and the colouring contest will run for an entire week!

There is also the "Coffee, Tea, or..." contest running in the Facebook group until December 17. Use any TEW image with a beverage in it (or use your imagination like our DT girl Kim did HERE).  PLUS, there are twice monthly challenges on the BLOG

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I hope you like my little card this week. You can also check me out on Facebook HERE. xx

Karaoke!!

I personally do NOT sing in public, or in front of anyone, for that matter. But if I'm by myself, I'm Mariah Carey. I'm beltin' it out and singing loud!! The new release from The East Wind today is "Karaoke" and I have never been drunk or dumb enough to do Karaoke. It would be a crime against humanity to give me a microphone and a song to sing. ;-)

I coloured this with Copics, and the background is from the background class that is in November's Create & Learn class over at Kit & Clowder. I only tweaked the colours to go with my image using purples and pinks instead of the blues she used in the class. If you are not doing the C&L classes, you should. November's projects are awesome!! There is a marker class and a pencil class, and they are both top notch. The background class is only available to class subscribers, and you're really missing out if you don't have this background class. You can just buy them one at a time, if you are not into subscribing for a whole year. It's a super flexible way to learn new techniques.

We have a new Facebook challenge starting TOMORROW (Nov 21) in the Facebook group, so pop in tomorrow and see what theme we have this month to test your colouring skills! ;-) Don't forget there are also twice monthly challenges on the BLOG, so check that out and make sure you're signed up for the newsletter so you get your freebie image on the 1st of every month!

"Wings" by The East Wind

We have a new release today at The East Wind called "Wings". She looks like a bit of a fallen angel perhaps, so I made it a little dark, giving just her wings a pop of colour.

I used Michele R digital papers in Winter Frost and gray scaled them so they were black/gray instead of the original blue/brown. I coloured the image with Copics.

Stop by our Facebook group and join in on some of the fun stuff happening over there. We are getting ready for a fun event in the beginning of November, along with our regular Facebook challenge, and our special Halloween mini-colouring contest which closes on Halloween. Jump over there and join the group if you haven't already, and show us some of your work! There are also twice monthly challenges on the BLOG, so a lot of chances to win and have fun colouring!

Thanks for stopping by! xx

Aurora 'Spring Lady" by The East Wind

It's Friday, and you know what that means! It's a new release day at The East Wind! Today is a new Aurora image called "Spring Lady". I really enjoyed colouring this one up with all the folds in her clothes. I thought it would be a good challenge since I am still trying to finish my Clothing technique class over at Kit & Clowder. (I will get it finished one of these days!)

Aurora 'Spring Lady'
I coloured her with Copics, using the following colours:
Skin - E50, E51, E53, R20
Hair - R30, R32, R35
Clothes - BV000, BV00, BV01, BV02, BV04, BV08 and Y17, Y15, Y13, Y11
Shoes - W00, W01, W03, W05, W07
I used coordinating papers from a DCWV Far East mat stack, and Spellbinders Majestic Labels Eight Die Set.

Make sure you join us on our Facebook page for our current challenge "It Started With a Song," and check out the BLOG for the new "Mother's Day - Add Flowers" challenge starting today! It Started With a Song

Today is the start of a brand new challenge in The East Wind's Facebook group. The theme is "It Started With a Song," and we want to see you make a project that is inspired by a song with a TEW image. When I was going through all the images, "Cat on the Head" screamed at me, "Disco!!" The afro was begging to be coloured. And what else is Lucy Loo but one of the ultimate "Bad Girls", the song by Donna Summer, although the song is about prostitutes, and I don't think Lucy is THAT bad.

The paper is from a DCWV Rock Star mat stack. I used a Spellbinders die to cut out the oval frame. I coloured her with Copics.

Here is Donna Summer herself singing about those "Bad Girls"

Make sure you check out the Facebook group and join in our challenge this month. Also, visit the blog HERE and check out the twice monthly challenges there too!! And if you're on Instagram, come follow me (@myndifraser) because we are going to start running contests for The East Wind on the 1st and 15th of every month! You don't want to miss out!

New Release at The East Wind

It's Friday and another new release is out at The East Wind's Etsy shop. Today's new release is Lucy Loo 'Ninja'.

I coloured her up with Copics, using the usual skin tone colours (E000, E00, E21, E11, E04) and C00, C01, C03, C05, C07, C09, and the R30s.

I am currently on a ski holiday with my family, so while I was able to colour her up, I haven't been able to make a project with her yet. Once I get home and get that done I will post an update.

Make sure you stop by the blog for the twice monthly challenges, and The East Wind's Facebook group for our current "Make It Krafty" challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!

Make It Krafty at The East Wind

We have a new challenge in The East Wind's Facebook group and the theme is "Make It Krafty" by colouring on kraft paper. I have never coloured on kraft paper before, so this was a challenge for me too. I had no idea how I was going to colour her skin. I had to do some Googling and some practicing because I colored with Prismacolor pencils this time, a huge jump from my normal Copics, and totally out of my comfort zone. I've signed up for the Perfecting Pencils class on Kit and Clowder, but haven't had time to do any lessons yet. I really wish I had completed a lesson or two before tackling this! I definitely have some motivation to get in the classroom now, because I really liked this project and the look of stamping an image on kraft.

The East Wind image I've used is Aurora'Maple'. I have been wanting to colour this image for the longest time and I thought it went perfectly with the kraft challenge.

I stamped a Heidi Swapp wood grain stamp with pigment ink on kraft paper and heat embossed it with Aged Gold Frantage. I tied brown raffia around that. I used By DIEzyne stitched bracket dies to cut out my image and mounted it on red paper. I mounted that on the gold embossed kraft. I wish I could tell you all the pencil colours I used, but it was a lot of layering and adding a colour here and there. It was not as straightforward as colouring with Copics.

I hope you like my first attempt at colouring on kraft and only my second time ever colouring an entire image with pencils. It was definitely a step out of my comfort zone!

Make sure you check out our group on Facebook and the blog! The blog has two challenges every month, in addition to the Facebook challenge, so there are a lot of opportunities to participate and win! And sign up for the newsletter (look for the bright pink box at the top of the page)!! The free image from Unky for April is SO beautiful!! You're going to be kicking yourself if you don't get her. And one of the challenges on the blog is to colour up the freebie, so GO SIGN UP!! And while you're there check out the new DT page! It's been updated and you can find out a little about myself and all our other fabulous designers!

The East Wind New Release Friday

Lucky me! I got to color up The East Wind's new release Lucy Loo 'Lucy' for my DT project this week! I love all TEW images, but Lucy Loo has to be my favourite. I might have said that before. ;-)

Lucy Loo 'Lucy'
As usual, I coloured her with Copics.
Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E04
Hair and Eyes - B32, B34, B39
Clothes - W00, W01, W03, W05
I used W7 to accentuate her eyelashes and make them a bit longer so they really popped.
I used a sponge and applied Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot around her, and I distressed the edges of the paper for some texture. Then I added some sparklies and called it done!

I hope you like it! Make sure you check out the blog and join our group on Facebook for monthly contests and "Like" Unky's art page on Facebook too! Thanks for visiting!

"I'm Ready For My Close-Up, Mr. DeMille"

The famous line from "Sunset Boulevard," delivered by Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, is the basis for our theme this month at The East Wind Facebook page. Take your favorite TEW image and crop so only the head remains, for a close up that would rival Norma Desmond's.

I used Lucy Loo 'Arabian Nights' for my DT inspiration.

I coloured her with Copics:
Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E13, E04
Hair - E49, E47, E44, E41
Eyes - YG17, YG13, YG00 & Prismacolor Pencils Black and Dark Green, plus a white gel pen for highlights (If you like how my eyes turned out, check out Unky's Colouring Therapy on YouTube for a great tutorial!)
The paper is from a DCWV All Dressed Up mat stack; the embellishments are from Wild Orchid Crafts and Bo Bunny

While we're having lots of fun over on the Facebook page, don't forget there are TWO challenges every month on the blog also. So THREE chances to show us your talent and win some free images from TEW! Make sure you check it out!

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share my project for this challenge with you!

Hybiscus

Happy Monday! It's another new release day at The East Wind. Starting next week, new releases will be Tuesdays and Fridays. Today's new release is "Hybiscus".

I coloured her with Copics and Prismacolor pencils. I kept the layout simple because, to be honest, I have been quite sick and having a hard time getting any crafting done.  I'm sure in a week, I'll be thinking, "I should have done this or that," but right now, I'm just glad I finished her.

Make sure you join us on the Facebook page, where we are having a Alice in Wonderland themed challenge from January 21 - February 17. There are also two challenges on the blog every month. And if you haven't signed up for the newsletter, then go do so NOW! There was a freebie in it this month that is absolutely beautiful. And there will be another freebie in it next month as well.

Queen of Hearts

First let me start off by saying that we are celebrating having over 500 members in The East Wind Facebook group! We are having a colouring contest, and some games will be played as well. Unky has offered up some of her art prints as a prize for commenting on THIS POST and inviting a friend to join The East Wind. Make sure you check it out!! And if you're not a member of the FB group, JOIN! We would love to have you!

Here we go! The 21st of every month is the start of a new challenge on The East Wind's Facebook page. This month, our theme is "Alice in Wonderland" and the image I'm using for my DT project is Lucy Loo 'Queen of Hearts'.

I decided to use actual playing cards as the background for my card because she is, after all, the Queen of Hearts. I staggered and layered them, using 3D foam dots. On the last two layers of cards, I doubled up the foam so they sat higher.

I coloured most of her with Copics, but I used Gelly Roll Metallic pens for her crown, scepter, and the jewels on her scepter; I used a Gelly Roll silver glitter pen to highlight her gown so it looked like silver thread in areas.

I put the Queen on with even more foam dots so she sat higher than everything else.
"Off With Her Head!"
I also used Spellbinders dies, my Cameo to cut out the baroque heart, and flowers from I Am Roses.
I had a lot of fun making this. I know someone who loves Alice in Wonderland, so I may put this in a shadow box and make a gift of it. I hope you liked it!

Thanks for visiting!! And make sure you check out The East Wind. Besides the Facebook group, there is the blog, with TWO challenges every month. All three challenges between the FB group and the blog have different themes, so there's sure to be something that will interest you and inspire you to craft.

I'm entering this into the challenges at:

New Release Friday at The East Wind

Hello and Happy Friday!! I am having such a blast at The East Wind! What a great group of ladies! Lucky for all of us, Fridays AND Mondays are new release days at The East Wind. Today's new release is Aurora 'Explore'. I coloured her up with Copics and Prismacolor Pencils. The paper is from Michele R Designs.

I was really inspired by the idea of travel when I got this image. I imagine she's exploring the world, and discovering new things on her journeys. She can't wait to see what kind of things she will find in the places she visits.

This picture shows an angle view so you can see the dimension of the layout.
We're running challenges on Facebook and TEW blog. You have just a little bit of time left to enter the current Facebook challenge, the theme of which is Very Merry "Quirkmas". The deadline is January 17, so HURRY!! January 21 is the beginning of a new challenge on The East Wind Facebook page, so come check it out. It's going to be a lot of fun, because all of Unky's art that goes with the challenge theme is fantastic! There are also TWO challenges every month on The East Wind blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed it and are inspired to do some exploring of your own!
