Unchained Melody

Tamara is on a roll these days at Slinky Tart with some really awesome images. And not only is she drawing like crazy, but she has started streaming video on her Slinky Tart site. I sat in on a colour along with her the other day while she walked us through colouring skin with pencils. It was fantastic! I encourage you to go check it out.

Today I'm sharing my newest Slinky Tart project with the image "Unchained Melody".

I coloured her with Copics. I used DCWV Rock Star mat stack for the backing paper, and cut out the music notes with my Cameo, adding a little silver glitter around the inside edges. I just kept it simple.

I hope you go check out Slinky Tart. She's adding new images to the store all the time, and they are fabulous!! And make sure you share your creations with us on the Facebook page. Thanks for stopping by! xx

The East Wind New Release Tuesday

Welcome! Today we have a new release at The East Wind - Lucy Loo 'Hair Heaven'. The moment I saw this I knew I had to do it. The hair is AMAZING and I wanted to colour it so badly! It took me about four hours to complete the entire image. 95% of that time was spent on the hair. I coloured her with Copics using the R30's for her hair, and then went back over the shadows with a black Prismacolor pencil to deepen them up. It was a labour of love, truly.

I spent so much time on her hair, in the end I didn't know what else to do with her. I couldn't dress her up with a bunch of embellishments, so I applied Aged Wine Frantage on black cardstock, then applied Aged Black Frantage on the white around the image. I adhered the image to the black and then used gold glitter cardstock as the base mat. Whether I put her on a card or in a frame remains to be seen. I think she may be one of my most favourite pieces and will end up in a frame in my craft room. I love her so much!

Make sure you check out our Make It Krafty challenge in the Facebook group, and the twice monthly challenges on the blog. There is a stunning freebie for newsletter subscribers coming out on April 1, so subscribe if you haven't already. One of the monthly challenges is colouring up the freebie!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you like her and are feeling inspired by her like I was! Thanks to Unky for drawing her up!! <3

Winter Vacation Getaway

This month at Open-Minded Crafting Fun our challenge theme is "Winter Vacation Getaway". I already had my getaway for the year and made a trip down to Cuba in February for some much needed fun in the sun! It was a great time and the people there are so friendly and Havana is really a beautiful city that needs to be seen.
So, what does a Winter Vacation Getaway mean to you? Mine is always someplace warm and by the ocean. I live in Alberta and it is very cold in the winter, so I definitely need to escape the winter weather and go someplace where I can defrost for a week or so. Let your project reflect what it means to YOU! It can be a ski holiday or a beach getaway, or whatever you like to do. Our sponsors for this challenge are ColorInk Digital Stamps, Digital Delights, Doodle Pantry, Illustrations by Jane, and Polkadoodles.

Each of these companies is offering a prize to the randomly chosen winners, so there is more than one chance to win. The contest closes at midnight, on March 27, 2015, so get your projects in! Time is running out!

I chose Seashore Shannon by Polkadoodles for my DT inspiration.

I coloured her with Copics. I used YR04, YR07, Y38, Y17, Y15, Y13, Y11, Y00 for her dress.
Her hair is E40's and her Skin is E000, E00, E21, E11, E13
I found the shells in a bucket in my garage from our time living in Florida. It's definitely good to hold on to somethings. You never know when they are going to come in handy.

I hope you like her!

Make It Krafty at The East Wind

We have a new challenge in The East Wind's Facebook group and the theme is "Make It Krafty" by colouring on kraft paper. I have never coloured on kraft paper before, so this was a challenge for me too. I had no idea how I was going to colour her skin. I had to do some Googling and some practicing because I colored with Prismacolor pencils this time, a huge jump from my normal Copics, and totally out of my comfort zone. I've signed up for the Perfecting Pencils class on Kit and Clowder, but haven't had time to do any lessons yet. I really wish I had completed a lesson or two before tackling this! I definitely have some motivation to get in the classroom now, because I really liked this project and the look of stamping an image on kraft.

The East Wind image I've used is Aurora'Maple'. I have been wanting to colour this image for the longest time and I thought it went perfectly with the kraft challenge.

I stamped a Heidi Swapp wood grain stamp with pigment ink on kraft paper and heat embossed it with Aged Gold Frantage. I tied brown raffia around that. I used By DIEzyne stitched bracket dies to cut out my image and mounted it on red paper. I mounted that on the gold embossed kraft. I wish I could tell you all the pencil colours I used, but it was a lot of layering and adding a colour here and there. It was not as straightforward as colouring with Copics.

I hope you like my first attempt at colouring on kraft and only my second time ever colouring an entire image with pencils. It was definitely a step out of my comfort zone!

Make sure you check out our group on Facebook and the blog! The blog has two challenges every month, in addition to the Facebook challenge, so there are a lot of opportunities to participate and win! And sign up for the newsletter (look for the bright pink box at the top of the page)!! The free image from Unky for April is SO beautiful!! You're going to be kicking yourself if you don't get her. And one of the challenges on the blog is to colour up the freebie, so GO SIGN UP!! And while you're there check out the new DT page! It's been updated and you can find out a little about myself and all our other fabulous designers!

The East Wind Aurora Siesta II

Today we have another new release from The East Wind, Aurora 'Siesta II'. I took a more celestial approach even though she is sleeping in vines. I found this quote, "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream" from Edgar Allan Poe, and it all came together for me.

I did the background with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, and used a white Molotow marker to dot in some stars. I used my Cameo to cut out some vines on white paper. I was going to color them, but then decided leaving them white added to the idea that she's floating in dreamland. I colored the image with Copics.

I'm entering this in the Faery Ink Out of this World Challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!

White Poppy by Aurora Wings

I love Aurora Wings. One of my very first blog posts was about some of Mitzi's flowers. I don't have as much time to colour them as I used to, which is sad because they are so beautiful. I bought three of her colouring books (yes, she has colouring books with these beautiful images in them), and I don't know how many digital stamps. This is White Poppy, and I coloured her for a card that I sent to a friend that was feeling blue.
I coloured this with Copics. All of my embellishments are from Wild Orchid Crafts, except for the purple ribbon rose, which I made. I think I need some more practice doing THAT. It was not as easy as the lady on YouTube made it look. I also used a Spellbinders die for the mat.
The Copics a I used are as follows:
Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11
Hair - BG90's
Poppies - R80's
Butterfly Wing Ears - BV20's

I'm entering this into the following challenges:
Aurora Wings - Anything Goes Challenge
Scrapper's Delights - ATG
Craft Your Passion - ATG
Party Time Tuesdays - ATG

I hope you like it. Thanks for visiting!

Ppinkydolls!!

I have such an exciting announcement today! A couple weeks ago Chrishanthi at Ppinkydolls asked me to be on her Design Team!! It is always a thrill to be asked to be on someone's DT because it  means someone appreciates what you do, and that is always a great feeling. I really love her images. They are quirky and unique, and I love things that are out of the mainstream.

There is a Facebook challenge going on right now at the Ppinkydolls Facebook page, with the theme "Spring Friends". Submit an entry made with a Ppinkydolls image that has a Ppinky girl with an animal friend. EVERYONE that enters gets a free digi after the close of the challenge.

I have two DT inspiration projects for you today. My first one is "How Beautiful".

I coloured this with Copics. The paper is from Michele R Designs digital papers in Shabby Blue Charms, the pearls, flowers, dove and lace are all from Wild Orchid Crafts; the ribbon is from Michaels.
The Copics I used are:
Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E04
Hair - E40's
Dress - V000, V01, V02, V04, V08
I dabbed Tim Holtz distress inks in Tumbled Glass and Squeezed Lemonade around the image with a damp sea sponge.

*                               *                                   *                                *                                 *
My second project is with the image "Unicorn Leslie".

I also coloured this with Copics. The paper is again from Michele R Designs, all my embellies are from Wild Orchid Crafts. The little butterfly I made with my Cameo. I actually made an entire sheet of them out of white cardstock and I will just colour them up as needed to match my projects. This one is dyed with Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Tattered Rose. I dabbed around the image with a sea sponge using Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Tattered Rose, Tumbled Glass, and Broken China.
Copics used:
Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E04
Hair - E50, E53, E55
Dress - B0000, B00, B02, B04, B05, B39
Unicorn - C00, C1, C3, C5 and R80's for it's mane
I really tested my art skills here and tried to draw a little cobblestone path with W7-W0 to ground the image. Drawing is not something I'm good at, but I think it turned out okay.

I hope you like how my cards turned out! Thank you for stopping by and letting me share them with you. Make sure you check out the Ppinkydolls Facebook page, and her Etsy shop for a lot more of these fabulous images.

I'm entering this in The Corrosive Challenge Our Animal Friends challenge

Open-Minded Crafting Fun - LUCK

This month at Open-Minded Crafting Fun Challenges our theme is "Luck", in whatever form you find it. I would say that I have bad luck in some ways. I have never bought any type of lottery ticket that paid anything, I have never won a random draw, or won one cent gambling. But, I have been very lucky in my personal life. I have always had great people as friends and been lucky enough to marry a wonderful person with a wonderful family. I decided to make a card for a friend who is quite far away and I rarely get to see. I am indeed lucky to have her as a friend, although I suspect we might actually be long lost sisters, that is how strong our bond is.
The sponsors for our challenge this month are Digistamps4Joy, Dilly Beans Stamps, Make It Crafty, and Paper Addictions.  I'm using an image called Mimi's Flowers from Dilly Beans.

Let us see what "luck" means to you over at Open -Minded Crafting Fun and enter your own creation for a chance to win some awesome free digis.

Thanks for stopping by!!
